Brown Engineering Group is situated in Lochinvar, Southerton, Harare. The facility has 8000m2 of covered factory space and employs around 600 workers. The facility produces around 5000 tons of processed steel annually.
Brown Engineering Group is well acquainted with the trade of Abrasive Blasting. In the last three to four years the company has blasted around 25000m2 of steel surfaces, largely in the form of hydro pipelines. We are experienced applicators of ISO 8501 and NACE abrasive blasting standards.
Our Machine Shop incorporates 7 lathes, two milling machines, a number of pedestal drills, and one heavy duty radial arm drill.
Brown Engineering Group has had an inhouse M&E team for years. We have several qualified fitters and turners and electricians working in this section. This section will undertake small jobs such as wiring switch boards and fan manufacture and balancing, to larger jobs such as the assembly of horizontal linear screen rollers for the mining industry. This department also carries out our customer repair and back up service.
Our paint shop has skilled applicators trained in-house according to NACE standards. We are equally at home applying quick drying enamels as well as twin pack epoxies and the like. We stock a number of airless sprayers as well as utilising the conventional pot system.
Plate work at Brown Engineering Group is broken into heavy and light plate work. Our plate department has several bend brakes, presses and guillotines capable of bending up to 10mm plate. The plate section has a 12m plasma bed capable of cutting up to 25mm plate. This section also has sets of mechanical and hydraulic pinch rolls for rolling operations. This department undertakes the bulk of work for producing boiler, pipelines, fuel tanks as well as general tank and sump work for the mining industry.
Our steel yard will generally stock upwards of one thousand tons of steel of various sections from angles to channels, tube, I beams, H columns, and the like. The steel yard is kitted out with seven iron workers for cut, punch and shear work; one automated CNC Ocean Angle Clipper and 6 large band saws.
Our Structural section is broken into heavy and light structures and carries out fabrication of bespoke support structures for the mining industry as well as a range of structures including lattice, portal and taper framed structures. In recent times we have employed over one hundred welders working with TIG and MIG processes. We have around 40 MIG welding machines in the company as well as Automated Submerged Arc Welding and CO2 machines. We have a number of coded welders and subscribe to the AWS welding standard.
Brown Engineering Group works with several of the region’s leading mills and steel merchants. This allows us to stock a good range of quality steel on great terms. For bespoke large orders running in the hundreds or thousands of tons, we can negotiate competitive terms to assist your project.
Brown Engineering Group has a diverse skill set that we continue to develop. From our artisanal trades such as boiler makers, and fitters and turners, to our draughtsmen to our engineering and project management personnel, we aim for a balanced compliment of skills possessed by a motivated and caring staff that hold true to values to deliver on ‘Our Promise.’
Brown Engineering Group tend to be first movers in terms of approach to IT. All PC’s are Office 365 spec. We run a number of leading software packages such as CCS, Buildsmart, ZOHO CRM, Tekla Structures, Solid Works and Autocad. Brown Engineering Group employs drone technology for hassle free, quick accurate survey work.
Brown Engineering Group has a workshop that runs our fleet of service vehicles and light and heavy lorries. We also run several light and heavy cranes which serve our rigging installation requirements. Further to this TLB's, concrete mixers and dumpers assist on light civil and concrete works.

Brown Engineering Group has serviced the Southern African region for many years having undertaken work as far north as Ethiopia and Tanzania as well as Malawi, Mozambique, Angola and Zambia. Operating within this region has its challenges that require a disciplined staff that can be depended on to use initiative to get the results required by our customers.
